Moondrop Illumination Reference-Class Dynamic IEM

Driven by devotion

Some people treat dynamic drivers like the beer of the audio world: cheap, mass-produced, and leaving a bad taste in the mouth. If that’€™s true, then the Illumination are like a Belgian Trappist ale made by fourteen genius monks. Every ingredient--from the large 11mm driver and Japanese Daikoku CCAW voice coil to the premium N52 neodymium magnets--has been chosen for a sound that rivals “fancier”€ driver types.

Anti-scratch chassis

Golder than Mike Myers in a critically-panned comedy, the Illumination’s golden shells are made of scratch-proof TiN, or Titanium Nitride. This high-quality material is often used to improve the lifespan of machine tooling, such as drills bits, so the manufacturer isn’t messing around when they say that the Moondrop is scratch-resistant, even against knives.

Audiophile, right out of the box

The Illumination is hi-fi from its head to its toes, or, er, its eartip to its jack. Its cable is made of 6N OCC copper with SPC (silver-plated copper) shielding (read: really conductive, really durable, really good). It includes three termination plugs: 2.5mm balanced, 4.4mm balanced, and 3.5mm single-ended.

Specs

  • Impedance: 25 Ohms
  • Sensitivity: 124dB/mW
  • THD+N: <0.3%
  • Frequency Response: 20Hz-20kHz
  • Frequency Range: 10Hz-50kHz (1/4 inch free-field mic)

Frequency response
